Looking at the code, special gems are: ✨ (row clear), 🌪️ (column clear), 💣 (bomb), 🔮 (color bomb), 💠 (rare). \n\nIn the current code, `findAndMarkMatches()` only matches normal gems. It triggers special effects only when a special gem is part of a match of 3+ and is being cleared. But the issue is that special gems likely never match with anything because they are unique - you can't get 3 ✨ in a row typically. So they just sit there and don't do anything.\n\nWait, let me re-read. `triggerSpecial` is called for gems in `initialList` which are positions in `toClear`. But `toClear` only contains positions from matches of 3+ of the same gem. Since special gems are different from each other and from normal gems, they won't naturally form matches of 3+. So specials never get cleared, never trigger.\n\nActually, the design intent seems to be: when you match normal gems and create a special, that special sits on the board. Then when the player swaps that special with an adjacent gem, it should activate. But currently, clicking/swapping a special gem with a normal gem just swaps them, and then `findAndMarkMatches()` checks for 3+ matches, which won't involve the special. So nothing happens.\n\nThe fix should be: when a special gem is swapped with an adjacent gem (or matched), it activates. We need to detect when a special gem is involved in a swap and trigger its effect.\n\nLet me think about the simplest robust fix:\n\n1. After a swap, check if either swapped cell is a special gem.\n2. If a special gem was swapped, trigger its effect. The effect should clear appropriate cells.\n3. Then resolve the board normally.\n\nActually, in match-3 games like Bejeweled, special gems activate when matched or when swapped. A common pattern is: when you swap a special with any adjacent gem, the special activates immediately.\n\nLet me implement this:\n\nIn `clickGem`, after swap, before checking matches:\n- Check if either cell is a special gem.\n- If yes, trigger the special effect and then resolve.\n\nActually, the cleanest approach: modify `resolveBoard` or add a function `activateSpecialIfAny(x,y)` to trigger specials when swapped.\n\nLet me redesign the flow:\n\nWhen player swaps two adjacent gems:\n1. If either gem is a special (\"✨\",\"🌪️\",\"💣\",\"🔮\",\"💠\"), activate that special immediately (or both if both are specials).\n2. Activation marks cells to clear, removes them, applies gravity, then resolves chains.\n\nBut what if both are specials? We can activate both. What if a normal swap creates matches AND involves a special? Probably just activate special(s).\n\nActually, in standard match-3, special gems activate when:\n- They are part of a match (3+)\n- Or when swapped with another special (both activate)\n- Or when swapped with a regular gem (the special activates)\n\nLet me implement: after swap, if either swapped cell is special, trigger both specials (if applicable), mark those for clearing, clear them, then check for regular matches and resolve chains.\n\nWait, there's a subtlety. If we activate a special, it clears certain cells. Some of those cells might be other specials, which should then also activate (chain reaction). This is important.\n\nSo the resolution loop should:\n1. Find all special gems that should activate (e.g., because they were swapped or because they are in a clear zone of another special).\n2. Process their effects, adding more clears.\n3. Also find normal 3+ matches.\n4. Clear everything.\n5. Apply gravity.\n6. Repeat.\n\nThe current `findAndMarkMatches` does trigger specials that are in `toClear`, but the problem is specials rarely get into `toClear` because they don't match.\n\nSo the key fix is: when a special is swapped, add it to the clear set and trigger it.\n\nLet me write a function `activateAt(x,y, toClear)` that adds the special at x,y to toClear and calls triggerSpecial. Then in clickGem, after swap, check both swapped positions for specials and activate them.\n\nActually, if a special is swapped with a normal gem, we want the special to activate. If two specials are swapped, we want both to activate. If no special is swapped, we just do normal matching.\n\nLet me modify `clickGem`:\n\n```javascript\nfunction clickGem(x,y){\n if(!selected){\n selected = {x,y};\n draw();\n return;\n }\n\n const dx = Math.abs(selected.x - x);\n const dy = Math.abs(selected.y - y);\n\n if(dx + dy === 1){\n swap(selected.x, selected.y, x, y);\n \n const special1 = isSpecial(board[selected.y][selected.x]);\n const special2 = isSpecial(board[y][x]);\n \n if(special1 || special2){\n // Activate special(s)\n resolveWithSpecialActivation(selected.x, selected.y, x, y);\n } else {\n if(!findAndMarkMatches()){\n swap(selected.x, selected.y, x, y);\n } else {\n resolveBoard();\n }\n }\n }\n\n selected = null;\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nHmm, but after swap, the special is now at the new position. We need to activate it at its new position.\n\nWait, when we swap (x1,y1) and (x2,y2), the gem originally at (x1,y1) moves to (x2,y2) and vice versa. So if originally (x1,y1) was special, after swap it's at (x2,y2).\n\nBut the simplest is to just check after swap: are either of the two positions now special? If yes, activate both positions.\n\nLet me write `resolveWithSpecialActivation(x1,y1,x2,y2)`:\n\n```javascript\nfunction resolveWithSpecialActivation(x1,y1,x2,y2){\n const toClear = new Set();\n \n // Activate specials at both positions if present\n for(const [cx,cy] of [[x1,y1],[x2,y2]]){\n if(isSpecial(board[cy][cx])){\n mark(toClear, cx, cy);\n triggerSpecial(cx, cy, toClear);\n }\n }\n \n // Apply clears\n for(const pos of toClear){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n \n // Score\n const removed = toClear.size;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n \n // Apply gravity\n for(let x=0;x 0. The initial special activation clears some gems, so we want those to count too.\n\nBetter approach: modify `resolveBoard` to accept an optional initial set of clears (from special activation). Or, set those cells to empty and let resolveBoard handle scoring from there.\n\nActually, the simplest: make the special activation part of the resolution loop. We can have a function that, given an initial activation position, builds the toClear set, then calls a shared resolution routine.\n\nLet me refactor `resolveBoard` to be more general.\n\nAlternative simpler fix: In `findAndMarkMatches`, also detect if any special gem is adjacent to a match or... no, that's not right.\n\nActually, the standard expectation for a match-3 game is that special gems activate when swapped. Let me implement that cleanly.\n\nI'll create:\n- `isSpecial(gem)` helper\n- Modify `clickGem` to detect special swaps and call `resolveBoard(true, x1, y1, x2, y2)` or similar\n- Modify `resolveBoard` to handle initial special activations\n\nWait, I think the cleanest is to have `resolveBoard` take an optional array of positions that are \"activated\" (specials being triggered). Then in the loop, it starts with those in toClear and triggers them.\n\nLet me rewrite `resolveBoard`:\n\n```javascript\nfunction resolveBoard(initialActivations = []){\n let chain = 0;\n\n // If there are initial special activations, set them as toClear and trigger\n let toClear = new Set();\n for(const [x,y] of initialActivations){\n if(isSpecial(board[y][x])){\n mark(toClear, x, y);\n triggerSpecial(x, y, toClear);\n }\n }\n \n // Apply initial clears\n for(const pos of Array.from(toClear)){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n \n // score initial clears\n let removed = toClear.size;\n if(removed > 0){\n chain++;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n }\n\n while(true){\n // Apply gravity first if there are empties\n let hasEmpty = false;\n for(let x=0;x 0){\n chain++;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n }\n\n // drop down columns and fill top\n for(let x=0;x 100) break;\n }\n\n combo = 1;\n level = Math.floor(score / 1000) + 1;\n updateUI();\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nHmm, this is getting complicated. Let me think more carefully.\n\nActually, the existing `resolveBoard` already has a gravity loop. I just need to integrate the special activation into it.\n\nWait, the existing `resolveBoard` applies gravity at the end of each loop iteration. But at the start, it doesn't apply gravity - it assumes the board is full. That's fine because after a valid swap, matches are found, then cleared, then gravity, then repeat.\n\nIf I want initial special activation, I should:\n1. Mark the activated special(s) and their effect cells as empty.\n2. Then enter the resolution loop which will apply gravity and find more matches.\n\nBut I shouldn't apply gravity before entering the loop because the loop starts by finding matches. Actually, the loop finds matches on the current board (with empty cells), counts them, then applies gravity. Wait no, the existing code:\n\n```javascript\nwhile(true){\n const any = findAndMarkMatches();\n let removed = 0;\n for(const row of board) for(const g of row) if(g === \"\") removed++;\n\n if(!any && removed === 0) break;\n\n if(removed > 0){\n chain++;\n score += ...\n }\n\n // drop down columns and fill top\n for(let x=0;x ({x:p[0], y:p[1]}));\n for(const p of queue){\n if(isSpecial(board[p.y][p.x]) && !toClear.has(`${p.x},${p.y}`)){\n mark(toClear, p.x, p.y);\n triggerSpecial(p.x, p.y, toClear);\n }\n }\n \n // Wait, triggerSpecial may add new specials to toClear but doesn't recursively trigger them\n // We need to recursively trigger\n}\n```\n\nThe current `triggerSpecial` marks cells but doesn't recursively trigger specials in the marked cells. Let me update `triggerSpecial` to recursively trigger? Or do it in the resolution loop.\n\nActually, the existing `findAndMarkMatches` does trigger specials in `initialList`, but only one level. Let me look:\n\n```javascript\nconst initialList = Array.from(toClear).map(...);\nfor(const p of initialList){\n const gem = board[gy][gx];\n if([\"✨\",\"🌪️\",\"💣\",\"🔮\",\"💠\"].includes(gem)){\n triggerSpecial(gx, gy, toClear);\n }\n}\n```\n\nSo it takes the current toClear, triggers those specials, which adds more cells to toClear. But it doesn't then trigger specials in the newly added cells. That's a bug for chain reactions. But maybe acceptable for now.\n\nFor the main fix, I'll do:\n\n1. Add `isSpecial(gem)` helper.\n2. Modify `clickGem` so that when a swap involves a special, instead of checking for 3+ matches, we activate the special(s).\n3. Implement the activation and resolution flow.\n\nActually, I think the cleanest is to modify `resolveBoard` to optionally accept activation positions, and integrate them into the loop.\n\nLet me write the full modified `resolveBoard`:\n\n```javascript\nfunction resolveBoard(activatedPositions = []){\n let chain = 0;\n\n // Helper to apply a clear set and score it\n function applyClearSet(toClear){\n if(toClear.size === 0) return 0;\n for(const pos of Array.from(toClear)){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n chain++;\n const removed = toClear.size;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n return removed;\n }\n\n // Initial special activations from swapped specials\n let activated = new Set();\n for(const [ax, ay] of activatedPositions){\n if(isSpecial(board[ay][ax])){\n mark(activated, ax, ay);\n triggerSpecial(ax, ay, activated);\n }\n }\n applyClearSet(activated);\n\n while(true){\n // Apply gravity\n for(let x=0;x 0){\n chain++;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n }\n\n // Apply gravity again at end of loop\n for(let x=0;x 100) break;\n }\n\n combo = 1;\n level = Math.floor(score / 1000) + 1;\n updateUI();\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nWait, this has gravity at both start and end of loop, which is redundant. Let me simplify.\n\nActually, the simplest correct flow is:\n- Initial activation: clear cells, score, apply gravity.\n- Loop: find matches, clear, score, apply gravity, repeat.\n\n```javascript\nfunction resolveBoard(activatedPositions = []){\n let chain = 0;\n\n // Initial activations\n let activated = new Set();\n for(const [ax, ay] of activatedPositions){\n if(isSpecial(board[ay][ax])){\n mark(activated, ax, ay);\n triggerSpecial(ax, ay, activated);\n }\n }\n \n if(activated.size > 0){\n chain++;\n const removed = activated.size;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n for(const pos of activated){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n }\n\n while(true){\n // gravity\n for(let x=0;x 0){\n chain++;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n }\n\n if(chain > 100) break;\n }\n\n combo = 1;\n level = Math.floor(score / 1000) + 1;\n updateUI();\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nBut `findAndMarkMatches` returns true if it found matches and marked them. It already clears the marked cells internally by setting them to \"\". Then `removed` counts the empty cells. So the loop doesn't need to explicitly clear - it just applies gravity after. Good.\n\nWait, but in the existing code, after `findAndMarkMatches`, it counts removed and applies gravity. The next iteration of the loop then finds matches on the board that had gravity applied. That works.\n\nNow for `clickGem`:\n\n```javascript\nfunction clickGem(x,y){\n if(!selected){\n selected = {x,y};\n draw();\n return;\n }\n\n const dx = Math.abs(selected.x - x);\n const dy = Math.abs(selected.y - y);\n\n if(dx + dy === 1){\n const sx = selected.x, sy = selected.y;\n swap(sx, sy, x, y);\n \n const specialSwapped = isSpecial(board[sy][sx]) || isSpecial(board[y][x]);\n \n if(specialSwapped){\n resolveBoard([[x,y], [sx,sy]]);\n } else {\n if(!findAndMarkMatches()){\n swap(sx, sy, x, y);\n } else {\n resolveBoard();\n }\n }\n }\n\n selected = null;\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nWait, I need to check if the gems at the new positions are special. After swap, position (sx,sy) has the gem that was originally at (x,y), and position (x,y) has the gem that was originally at (sx,sy). So checking both positions after swap is correct.\n\nBut for activation, I want to activate the special gems. The positions after swap are where they currently are, so passing `[[x,y], [sx,sy]]` to resolveBoard is correct.\n\nHowever, if both are special, we activate both. Good.\n\nBut what if a special is swapped and the swap also creates a 3+ match? The special activation should still happen, and after gravity, the match should resolve. Good.\n\nOne issue: if the user swaps a special with a normal gem, but the swap is \"invalid\" in the sense that it doesn't create a match, we should still allow it because special activation is always valid. Currently my code does allow it if `specialSwapped` is true.\n\nGood.\n\nNow, I also need to make `triggerSpecial` recursive or at least chain properly. Because if a bomb clears a row-clear gem, that row-clear gem should also activate. The current `findAndMarkMatches` only triggers one level.\n\nLet me improve `triggerSpecial` to recursively trigger specials in newly marked cells. But careful about infinite recursion.\n\nActually, let me make a separate `triggerSpecialRecursive` or modify `triggerSpecial` to use a queue.\n\n```javascript\nfunction triggerSpecial(x, y, marked){\n const queue = [[x,y]];\n const visited = new Set();\n \n while(queue.length > 0){\n const [cx, cy] = queue.shift();\n const key = `${cx},${cy}`;\n if(visited.has(key)) continue;\n visited.add(key);\n \n const gem = board[cy][cx];\n if(!gem) continue;\n \n if(gem === \"✨\"){\n for(let nx=0; nx 0){\n const [x, y] = queue.shift();\n const key = `${x},${y}`;\n if(visited.has(key)) continue;\n visited.add(key);\n \n const gem = board[y][x];\n if(!gem) continue;\n \n const addIfSpecial = (nx, ny) => {\n if(nx>=0 && nx=0 && ny=0 && nx=0 && ny best){ best = counts[k]; target = k; }\n }\n if(target){\n for(let yy=0; yy 0, score, gravity fills board.\nSecond iteration: board full, find matches...\n\nMy code:\n```\nif activated.size > 0: clear and score\nwhile(true){\n gravity\n any = findAndMarkMatches()\n count removed\n if !any && removed==0 break\n score\n gravity\n}\n```\n\nFirst iteration: gravity (no effect), find matches, clear, count > 0, score, gravity.\nSecond iteration: gravity (no effect), find matches...\n\nSo my code has an extra gravity at the start of each iteration, which is harmless.\n\nActually, to minimize changes, I could just add the initial activation handling and keep the loop structure the same. Let me do that:\n\n```javascript\nfunction resolveBoard(activatedPositions = []){\n let chain = 0;\n\n // Handle initial special activations from swapped specials\n let activated = new Set();\n for(const [ax, ay] of activatedPositions){\n if(isSpecial(board[ay][ax])){\n mark(activated, ax, ay);\n triggerSpecial(ax, ay, activated);\n }\n }\n \n if(activated.size > 0){\n chain++;\n const removed = activated.size;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n for(const pos of activated){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n }\n\n while(true){\n const any = findAndMarkMatches();\n let removed = 0;\n for(const row of board) for(const g of row) if(g === \"\") removed++;\n\n if(!any && removed === 0) break;\n\n if(removed > 0){\n chain++;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n }\n\n // drop down columns and fill top\n for(let x=0;x 100) break;\n }\n\n combo = 1;\n level = Math.floor(score / 1000) + 1;\n updateUI();\n draw();\n}\n```\n\nThis keeps the loop identical to original. Good.\n\nNow, after the initial activation clears cells, the board has empty cells. Then the while loop starts. `findAndMarkMatches` finds matches in the current board (with some empty cells). The empty cells are ignored because `board[y][x] !== \"\"` condition. Then after scoring the matches + empty cells from activation? Wait no.\n\nIssue: In the first iteration of the while loop, `removed` counts ALL empty cells, including those from the initial activation. But we already scored the initial activation separately. So we'd double-score the initial activation cells.\n\nYes! That's a bug. We need to either:\n1. Apply gravity after initial activation before entering the loop, so no empty cells remain.\n2. Or not score initial activation separately and let the loop handle it.\n\nOption 1 is cleaner. Apply gravity after initial activation, then enter the loop. The loop starts with a full board.\n\n```javascript\nif(activated.size > 0){\n chain++;\n const removed = activated.size;\n score += removed * 10 * combo * comboPower;\n gold += removed * goldMult;\n combo = Math.min(combo + 1, 100);\n for(const pos of activated){\n const [x,y] = pos.split(\",\").map(Number);\n board[y][x] = \"\";\n }\n \n // Apply gravity\n for(let x=0;x
