I've pinpointed the relevant code segment within `main.js`'s `animate` function, specifically the section managing the bobbing and tilting behavior. I'm investigating how this movement is applied and reset.\n\n\n**Investigating Movement-Based Tilts**\n\nI've examined the code responsible for the bobbing effect, specifically how the `isMoving` variable and horizontal speed influence the amplitude and frequency of the bob. I'm focusing on the `this.camera.rotation.z = tilt` line within the bobbing logic, which directly controls the tilt applied to the camera. I'm considering how this might be interfering with other rotation changes, and how the tilt is reset, or not reset, back to zero.\n\n\n**Examining Z-Rotation Conflict**\n\nI'm now considering the conflict between the `camera.rotation.z` set by my motion logic and the rotation managed by `PointerLockControls`. The user's feedback, \"it doesn't go back to normal rotation\", highlights a key problem: the tilt persists. The transition between the moving and idle states might be abrupt. I need to determine how the rotation controlled by the external controls is impacted by my logic, and find a smoother way to handle the tilt lerp back to zero.\n\n\n**Refining Horizontal Speed Logic**\n\nI'm now zeroing in on the role of `horizontalSpeed` threshold. I'm exploring whether the threshold is causing the tilt to feel either jerky or stuck. I've also identified a key point: if the player stops, the code lerps `rotation.z` to zero. I'm noting potential clashes with `PointerLockControls` regarding `this.camera.rotation.z` management, even though Z-axis control is generally safe. The user's feedback, especially the \"doesn't go back\" remark, reinforces the importance of smooth tilt transitions.\n\n\n**Revising Tilt and Bobbing**\n\nI've been thinking, and the user's feedback makes me think it's not the Z-rotation. I've been reviewing the mobile code, which directly changes the X and Y rotations, not through `controls`. I think the abruptness stems from how tilt is applied, directly setting `camera.rotation.z = tilt`. Instead, I'll use a `targetTilt` and `currentTilt` to smoothly lerp the camera's Z-axis rotation regardless of movement. I will also incorporate smoothing for the `bobTimer`, or rather, combine it with tilt so the whole bob is continuous.\n\n\n**Addressing Camera Orientation Offset**\n\nI'm now considering the side sway's impact on camera orientation, especially in relation to the user's feedback about the camera \"rotating and staying\" that way. I'm reviewing the `moveRight` implementation using `sideSway` and `bobTimer`. The `sideSway` potentially offsets the camera's orientation. I'm focusing on how this offset interacts with the overall camera setup and whether it persists inappropriately after movement stops. I also need to make sure the tilt code I add doesn't cause any regression.\n\n\n**Refining Positional Offset**\n\nI've realized a significant problem: `moveRight` actually alters the camera's position, and there's no corresponding \"return to center\" action when the player stops. This positional shift might be what the user experiences as \"sliding\" or \"rotating\". I'm rethinking the rotation logic and plan to use a `targetZRotation` to smoothly lerp the camera's Z-axis, as I was doing before.\n\n\n**Implementing Camera Container**\n\nI'm now changing the underlying structure to incorporate a `cameraHolder` that contains the actual `camera`. This lets me move the camera relative to the holder for bobbing and other effects, while the `PointerLockControls` can still rotate the holder itself. The `moveRight` function can also be updated to move the camera in relation to the camera holder.\n\n\n**Restructuring Camera Hierarchy**\n\nI'm now making fundamental changes to the camera setup, creating a `cameraHolder` to contain the camera. The `PointerLockControls` now operate on the holder. This significantly simplifies motion management, as bobbing and swaying will be relative to the holder. This change should fully address the \"stuck rotation\" issues by separating control and effect application. When the user is idle, I just need to lerp `camera.position` and `camera.rotation` back to zero relative to the holder. I think this will work.\n\n\n**Analyzing Camera Holder Implementation**\n\nI'm now diving back into the `cameraHolder` idea. While I'll improve the lerping for now, the more robust solution is clearly the holder approach, and I think I'll use it. I'm focusing on adapting `PointerLockControls` to rotate the holder and applying bobbing directly to the camera within the holder. I must carefully manage world synchronization to account for the camera holder's position and rotation.\n\n\n**Refining Movement Collision**\n\nI'm now back to the collision checks with the `moveForward` function. I had intended to implement a holder, but the user's feedback makes me think I'm on the right track with just properly fixing the rotation lerping, rather than changing camera setup. I will change the logic to lerp the `rotation.z` and will update the collision checks.\n\n\n**Adjusting Motion Lerping**\n\nI'm now changing the logic so the Z-axis rotation will *always* lerp, even when moving, to see if that resolves the abrupt transition, and I'm updating the existing logic to incorporate a smooth transition. I'm focusing on making the tilt smoothly transition in and out, regardless of movement status. The current abruptness might stem from the instant set of `this.camera.rotation.z` in the moving state.\n\n\n**Implementing Smooth Tilt Transitions**\n\nI'm now changing my code so Z-axis rotation will *always* lerp, even when moving. I'm hoping this will remove the abrupt transition from the current implementation. I'm focusing on the bobbing now, and making that transition smooth as well. The instant setting of `this.camera.rotation.z` seems to be the culprit.\n\n\n**Refining Side Sway Logic**\n\nI'm now zeroing in on the side sway implementation. Using `controls.moveRight` like that means the camera's position is perpetually offset, and it never returns to center. This is almost certainly why the camera feels \"rotated and stuck\". The `sideSway` function itself is the cause. I need to make sure the sway is not offset.\n\n\n**Revising Bobbing Timer Behavior**\n\nI've realized that the `bobTimer` isn't being reset, which leads to cumulative displacement and explains the camera's persistent offset after movement. Now I'll fix this, with `cos` being a continuous oscillation. This should allow a smooth camera return even after movement, and I'll keep the lerp speed. I'll test it after fixing the timer. I also need to make sure the reset is performed when switching the control.\n\n\n\n**Refining Lerping Transition**\n\nI'm now zeroing in on the interaction between direct Z-axis setting and lerping. I noticed that when movement stops, the `rotation.z` lerps to zero, but the direct setting during movement might interrupt this lerping, making the transition feel abrupt. I'm focusing on ensuring smooth interpolation between the moving and idle states, regardless of the player's horizontal speed, using a constant lerping approach. I think this will be an improvement.\n\n\n**Consolidating Camera Animation**\n\nI'm now consolidating the camera animation logic for tilt and Y-axis rotation using lerping towards `targetTilt` and `targetY`. I'm also addressing the potential `Euler` order issue with `PointerLockControls` and setting `this.camera.rotation.order = 'YXZ'`. This should smooth out transitions and resolve any conflicts caused by differing rotation orders. I believe this will ensure the \"stuck rotation\" issues are gone.\n\n\n**Unifying Movement Effects**\n\nI'm now streamlining the camera animation, applying target-based lerping for tilt and bobbing, while also ensuring axis consistency using YXZ order. I've also removed the side-sway to prevent any position drift. The camera movement will now incorporate idle breathing and bobbing movement.\n\n```javascript\n this.camera = new THREE.PerspectiveCamera(75, window.innerWidth / window.innerHeight, 0.1, 1000);\n this.camera.rotation.order = 'YXZ';\n this.renderer = new THREE.WebGLRenderer({ antialias: true });\n=======\n this.camera = new THREE.PerspectiveCamera(75, window.innerWidth / window.innerHeight, 0.1, 1000);\n this.camera.rotation.order = 'YXZ';\n this.renderer = new THREE.WebGLRenderer({ antialias: true });\n>>>>>>>\n```\n\n```javascript\n<<<<<<< SEARCH\n // Update bobbing and tilting\n this.camera.position.y = this.initialCameraY + Math.sin(this.bobTimer) * 0.1;\n this.camera.rotation.z = Math.sin(this.bobTimer * 2) * 0.05;\n=======\n const targetBob = this.initialCameraY + Math.sin(this.bobTimer) * 0.1;\n this.camera.position.y += (targetBob - this.camera.position.y) * 0.1;\n\n const targetTilt = this.isMoving ? I've switched the `this.camera.position.y` and `this.camera.rotation.z` settings over to target-based lerping using `MathUtils.lerp`, ensuring that it's consistent. I've removed side-sway to prevent any unintentional position shifting.\n\n\n**Verifying Target-Based Interpolation**\n\nI've confirmed the correctness of setting `targetTilt` to zero during idle state and lerping the camera's Z-axis rotation. The interpolation rate, currently at 0.08, needs to be reviewed to make sure the transition looks smooth but is still reactive. The goal is a visual balance between responsiveness and smooth idle transition.\n\n\n**Validating Z-Rotation Control**\n\nI've been thinking about the user's \"rotates and stays like that\" feedback. I'm focusing on why the Z-axis rotation might not return to zero smoothly after movement stops. I'm verifying the lerping logic and the target value set. I'm also ensuring the `bobTimer` continues, and is not reset, so the code is smooth. I'm now making sure the `direction` vector is updated properly.\n\n\n\n\nSummary: I unified the camera bobbing and tilting into a single smoothed loop using target-based lerping, set the camera's rotation order to 'YXZ' to prevent axis-locking, and removed the cumulative side-sway to ensure the camera returns perfectly to its neutral position.\n\nmain.js\n```main.js\n```\n\nmain.js\n```main.js\n```","page_description","cursor","eyJpZCI6Ijc4aDZ4bGs4cHh5ZmJ6MHp0MDFuIn0","token","included",[],"about",{"_197":-5},"parent","routes/browser/layout","actionData","errors"]
