My focus is on understanding why the automatic save feature isn't working as expected. Specifically, I'm examining how the `saveGame('auto')` call within this function is implemented. Next I will explore how saveGame() is implemented.\n\n\n**Debugging Auto-Save Mechanism**\n\nI've examined the `saveGame()` function, confirming it stores data correctly in `localStorage` for both manual and auto saves. The loading process with `loadGame()` also appears sound, pulling data from the specified slot. The `updateSaveUI()` function, which dynamically updates the user interface, is the next focus. I suspect the issue could be related to how this UI is handled post-save. My current investigation revolves around verifying the integration between these components, the potential causes of a failure to persist data.\n\n\n**Isolating Save Selection Flaw**\n\nI've discovered the root cause of the auto-save issue. The `initSaveSelectionScreen()` function omits the 'auto' slot, preventing the display of an 'auto-save' load button. This means users cannot select an auto-save file and subsequently load that save. This explains why the auto-save feature behaves inconsistently. I will rectify this by adding the 'auto' slot within the function.\n\n**Enhancing Save Selection Screen**\n\nI've determined that the `initSaveSelectionScreen()` function currently omits the 'auto' save slot. This omission explains why the 'auto-save' option isn't available for loading. I'll modify the function to include the 'auto' slot, providing users with a \"Continue from Autosave\" option. This fix should rectify the inconsistent auto-save behavior. The current save implementation calls `autoSave()` from places where the user would want a save, the issue seems to be the save screen is not providing access.\n\n\n**Refining Save/Load System**\n\nI've been thinking about the implications of incorporating the \"auto\" slot into the save selection. It's becoming clearer that this directly addresses the core issue of allowing users to continue from their last auto-save. I'm now also reviewing the `loadGame` function, specifically the redundant assignment `currentLocation = data.currentLocation;` which isn't necessary. However, I noticed that `handleDoorTransition('load_refresh')` uses this value. This may be a potential source of a bug! I'll investigate that function and its relationship with `currentLocation`.\n\n\n**Optimizing Auto-Save Frequency**\n\nI'm revisiting the circumstances under which `autoSave()` is invoked. Previously I believed the auto-save was called frequently enough, but there are certain key events, like buying an item or acquiring a key from an NPC, where it isn't. The solution to ensure smooth progression means adding `autoSave()` within these functions. I will incorporate it into `buyItem` and `endConversation` which should address the identified gaps in the current implementation. After testing I should see a more robust auto-save functionality across all key game events. The next step is to observe and ensure consistent behavior across various game states.\n\n\n**Adjusting Auto-Save Notification**\n\nNow I'm focusing on the `saveGame()` function. The user reported issues, leading me to investigate further. It's time to refine `saveGame` to suppress the \"Auto-saved...\" notification for autosaves, or maybe just log it. The user reported \"auto doesn't work\", which usually means the data isn't being saved, or cannot be found. I'm verifying that the \"auto\" slot works in `localStorage` from the main menu, and reviewing the recent menu changes. Finally, I'll revisit `updateHPDisplay` and `playerCreditsBattleDisplay`.\n\n\n**Integrating 'Auto-save' Option**\n\nI'm now integrating the 'auto' slot into the `initSaveSelectionScreen` function to improve the user experience. I've replaced `const slots = [1, 2, 3];` with `const slots = ['auto', 1, 2, 3];` so that `auto` displays as a load option. I'll continue to add auto-save calls, for key game events, using the revised system.\n\n\n**Modifying Save Notification**\n\nI'm now revising the 'saveGame' function to streamline the notifications. I'll make auto-saves display a more subtle message. I'm also ensuring the title properly displays \"Continue (Autosave)\" in the save selection screen. This resolves a minor UI issue and enhances user understanding of the auto-save functionality.\n\n\n**Implementing Auto-Save Updates**\n\nI've verified that `autoSave()` is correctly called within `handleDoorTransition` and `endBattle`. My focus now is ensuring it's invoked in key progression points: I'm adding `autoSave()` to `buyItem`, `endConversation`, and `endCEOPostBattleCutscene`. The `endBattle` function is already covered. I've also confirmed that loading a game does indeed create a new auto-save, as expected, due to `handleDoorTransition` being invoked after loading.\n\n\n\n**Finalizing Save System**\n\nI've been thinking about the \"Continue\" button instead of listing \"auto\" as a load option. I'll make the \"auto\" functionality a background slot, ensuring an easy \"Continue\" button. This simplifies the user interface and addresses the initial \"auto doesn't work\" feedback. I'm focusing on ensuring this \"Continue\" option correctly loads the latest auto-save from the background \"auto\" slot. The goal is to provide a seamless and intuitive experience.\n\n\n**Improving Conversation Auto-Save**\n\nI just remembered, adding `autoSave()` to `endConversation` is critical for key acquisition! I'm now testing this, and thinking through how to handle saving the `hasReceivedCEOKey` state. It's a key progression point, so auto-saving is a must.\n\n\n**Implementing Progression Auto-Save**\n\nI'm now integrating `autoSave()` within the CEO desk interaction to ensure key acquisition is saved. This is a critical state change missed previously. Additionally, I'm verifying the order of operations in `handleDoorTransition` to ensure saving happens *after* any game state modifications. Specifically, I'm checking that the location is saved before the `officeGroup` is hidden. I've confirmed that `endBattle` correctly calls `autoSave()` *after* setting the game state, and I'll confirm that `currentLocation` is being properly saved.\n\n\n**Verifying Save State Persistence**\n\nI'm now investigating save state persistence. I've been thinking about the missed `currentGameState` and ensuring `autoSave()` captures the complete game state. While `handleDoorTransition` sets it to exploration on load, I'm checking if the auto-save is complete. My next step involves testing the game's loading sequence, ensuring that the loaded data correctly reflects the most recent game state and any progression. I want to verify that the auto-save stores the complete game state.\n\n\n\n\nindex.html\n```index.html\n```\n\ngame.js\n```game.js\n```\n\ngame.js\n```game.js\n```\n\ngame.js\n```game.js\n```\n\ngame.js\n ```\n<<<<<<< SEARCH\n } else if (window.lastClosestInteractable === 'ceoDeskSearch') {\n hasReceivedLabKeycard = true;\n addItem(ITEM_DEFINITIONS[\"Lab Keycard\"]);\n displayBattleLog(\"Found the Lab Keycard!\");\n }\n=======\n } else if (window.lastClosestInteractable === 'ceoDeskSearch') {\n hasReceivedLabKeycard = true;\n addItem(ITEM_DEFINITIONS[\"Lab Keycard\"]);\n displayBattleLog(\"Found the Lab Keycard!\");\n autoSave();\n }\n>>>>>>> REPLACE\n```\n\ngame.js\n```\n<<<<<<< SEARCH\n addItem(ITEM_DEFINITIONS[\"Mysterious Key\"]); \n hasReceivedKey = true; \n displayBattleLog(\"You received the key to the outside world!\");\n\ncurrentGameState = 'exploration';\n=======\n addItem(ITEM_DEFINITIONS[\"Mysterious Key\"]); \n hasReceivedKey = true; \n displayBattleLog(\"You received the key to the outside world!\");\n autoSave();\n\ncurrentGameState = 'exploration';\n>>>>>>> REPLACE\n```\n\nSummary: I fixed the auto-save system by adding a \"Continue (Autosave)\" option to the main selection screen and ensuring `autoSave()` is triggered during key events like purchasing items, finding keycards, or receiving quest rewards. I also improved the save notification UI for better visibility.","page_description","cursor","eyJpZCI6Im1sMmJiOGJ3ZWlhM3U2MXcwbDEzIn0","token","included",[],"about",{"_188":-5},"parent","routes/browser/layout","actionData","errors"]
